in my back yard. I took this image this evening, around 5:45 PM. It is a common barred owl and we have a pair of them. I am surprised that they are still here as most of their habitat has been destroyed in order to build more houses, but these are standing their ground. We hear them calling each evening. You can click here to listen to their call.

Owls are great!

We used to have some near us in Cornwall and I loved to listen to them at night.

You can attract screech owls by putting up a bird house for them (they are the only ones to use bird houses)I can post specifications if anyone wants them. My last house, we had a nest box with a family of screeches in residence. At dusk, they would stick their heads out and survey the scene until it was dark enough to fly. We got a lot of enjoyment watching them. I put up a box at the new house, but so far, no takers. BTW flickers and kestrels (the smallest falcons) will also use this same size box. Good luck.
