Quickly now! I've just received my XP-H.E. and before installing it instead of the XP-Pro I have which I can't update, should I totally erase the hard drive, and if so,with what (I have D/L'd Eraser) or just let the XP program do the erasing during the installation? I've heard both points of view, but I really trust you guys the most!

Since you are going to re-format, you might want to consider partitioning your hard drive. My 120 GB drive is partitioned as:

C: 20 GB

D: 20 GB (graphics programs, media players, business software, MS Office applications)

E: 70 GB (games, nothing but games)

D: 10 GB (storage)

I formatted and partitioned using the Windows XP CD.

A good choice, but I would bump that OS partition up to 30, maybe slide the games one to 60.

I have a similar setup, with a smaller drive, on my W2K3 server, and have found the OS wants to bump it's head

on the top end quite a bit.

Yeah, Whizzer, just let the XP CD do it. Re-partition, format, and have at it.

Why the switch from Pro, I'd like to know?

30 MB for the OS a good choice.

Ahh, Spec, he has a...er....how shall I say...not quite kosher copy of Pro.
