About three weeks ago I bought a Lite-On CD, DVD-RW player/recorder for the purpose of converting my old VHS and VHSC tapes to DVD. I finally got around to converting one, the VHSC I shot last year at the local airshow. This was the time I flew on the B-25J, "Panchito". It turned out pretty good.

Well, seeing as how I shot 90 minutes of tape, making that a 4.4 GB DVD and the Panchito ride lasted about 20 minutes, so if I just posted the Panchito ride that would be about 1GB and I can't think of any free hosting site that will let me upload a whole GB, plus the download, even with cable, would be incredibly time consuming, I'm thinking, sadly, no.

Oh, and the movie capture component of FRAPS does a crappy job of capturing the video off the DVD, at least at 25fps. I'll try a higher capture rate and see if that smooths out the capture. <_<

Oh, and the noise cancelling hardware in my camcorder pretty much killed the noise of the engines. :(

Ok, just tried capturing at 60 fps, no dice, still very choppy video capture.

Files on the disc are in have .BUP, .IFO, and .VOB extensions, that's all and I don't know how to convert such into MPEG, WMV, or MP3 or 4. I'm thinking I will need software that will do such. Anybody know any good freeware for this job?

Ok, I just found this site I removed the link due to excessive malware from programs hosted on their site- Stans and they have several DVD/CD rippers and file converter programs that are freeware. In fact, they have a metric buttload of freeware!

If you happened to download anything from their site, beware of the malware! I just finished (hopefully) removing a bunch of crap and restoring my system. Sorry I ever posted the link that I have removed. By the way, it was DirFile.com

Took over an hour to remove all their crap and fully restore my computer. The going price for commercially available CD/DVD ripper and converter software runs from $25 to $35, so I don't think I'll be posting cuts from the DVD any time soon. I'd rather put the money towards a new camcorder, a nice digital camcorder that records in higher resolutions and to a mini-disc.
